Magnifying eye-piece DK-21M and Nikon D50

At least this copy in this camera make a lousy combo together :-/ I do wear glasses and was hoping to get some help with this accessory. -For nothing. DSLR-bodies in affordable price class do have bad viewfinders in general.

Splut!

What in earth was that? A sudden strange noise took my attention when I was shooting a butterfly ashore. I looked to my left and saw a frog on a stone near me. Very carefully I lifted the tripod and turned around a bit. Froggy was behind some green leaves but luckily I found some open space to shoot. No time to place the tripod, just put it in my lap and made five quick shots and the situation was over. Sometimes we got a change to peek into animals’ lives – let’s use that privilege every time we can!

Vacation!

At last it is The Time; Time for a holiday! Last summer went without any freetime and winter also. -Well, I had a minor operation @ November and got two weeks of sick leave. But anyhow, I’m very glad having four weeks of vacation now!

Yesterday, when I picked Big Fish from local video rental, I also made a quick visit to Kirjurinluoto. There were some gulls there and I tried my skills on them. Got surprisingly many sharp images this time, and I have to say that I’m gonna love this prime!

I already got the magnifying eyepiece I ordered, and it seems to work quite nice with my Nikon. Same piece should also fit to Canon 20D.

See you in two weeks!

Two days to go

A long waited summer holiday shall begin next weekend. Have to admit that I’m in need of it, lol! Four weeks out of the office sounds very nice indeed :-)

This night is owned for a canoe-trip with my friend. River Ahlaistenjoki shall it be, but without camera shall it also be :-) Time for relaxation!

Update: We had very nice canoeing! Saw woodlark and heard wren, very nice indeed.

Nikkor 300/4 IF ED – first impressions

Nikkor 300/4, 1/2000, F5,6, iso 400, full frame

I got it yesterday afternoon. Have to say that the lens is in mint condition. Only thing what bothers me, is the squeeky sound when autofocusing all the way to the infinity. -I’ve heard about this issue some time ago with some Nikkor lenses. I think it can be fixed, but that is not a real problem for me. Don’t fix it if it ain’t broken!

Update 12.7.2006: Squeeky sound eliminated with a little help from my oil bottle. Issue is with the focusing rod which needs to be oiled time to time. One drop of oil makes a difference! Information found from The Nikonians forum.

This herring gull was shot in Kallo last evening. The light was quite ok but we had a hard wind – almost a storm – there. At the time I shot this, clouds almost covered the sun…

Here’s 100% crop from the above image. I’d say that there’s some capacity :-)

Some findings:

  • Use tripod
  • Use short shutter speeds
  • Mirror lock-up would be perfect :-/
  • BG control is awesome with the lens!
  • I need magnifying eye-piece for my Nikon… placed an order 12.7.2006
