Boooooring…and I hate this black and rainy winter!

Homer Simpson says it so well, that I don’t even bother. Did I already mention that I’m a bit bored? Guess I did. Weather has been ugly for at least six weeks now, and I’m basically stuck inside. It seems to be some sort of sarcasm, that only shootable weather occurs in the office hours, when I’m working. And hey, I really appreciate the possibility to work! This is just my way of saying I’d rather still have my shooting sessions despite of the season =)

On the other hand, the time seems to be flying. When I was a kid, the weeks lasted longer than nowadays. (The summers were warmer and they sold Perry and Fami. Grandma taught me to eat my small pancakes with sugar and without jelly. Those were the days, you could say. I don’t. I don’t want to get the history back, I’m sure the Fami-bar would do the trick. Luckily Marabou makes Pigall, which resembles Fami very much.) It’s Monday now and about yesterday it was, hmm..Monday – Where does the time go? Very soon it’ll be summer again, then another long winter and I’ll be writing the same nonsense again. This makes me think. A lot.

At this moment I notice that I’ve been waiting for the new DSLR for a long time. What have I done during waiting? Hoping the time would’ve run faster that I could sooner fulfil my lust of having the new camera. I think that ain’t the meaning of life. Oh yes, there is a meaning of life, and I’ve found it – or to be correct: I’ve been found. More or less, I have been thinking the now-moment. Why in earth are we humans so often living in the past, or waiting for the future to happen? Complete nonsense, me thinks.

Reflections of the summer

Last year, or to be more accurate, last summer, was my first serious shooting season. I got many keepers and lot’s of experience about how things are not to be done ;-) Got great advice from NP-forum and brutally honest critique from Minna. Thanks to you all!

This young Common Gull was shot in Yyteri last summer. The weather was very warm and it was almost calm. The sand was covered by tiny mosquitoes which made a loud buzzing noise when they got on they wings! There must’ve been millions of them :-S

Jackdaw revisited

Now it is about the best season to shoot “berry-birds” here in Finland. We have given this name for basically all birds who eat berries from the bushes or trees late autumn and early winter. Among them are e.g. Waxwing, Jackdaw, Blackcap and all trushes. The most looked after species is, however, Pine Grosbeak.
This Jackdaw was shot before the snowstorm and cold weather hit us. I went to Kirjurinluoto today but got nothing. Trees and berries were covered in frost but no birds in sight.

Taking a bath

From the family of crows I like Siberian Jay the most, but Jay and Jackdaw come very close! There is something aristocratic in Jackdaw; in its way of walking, in its looks and behaviour – even its way of taking a path is gentle. Its blue eyes have caught my attention more than once:
