Hammertime!

Male yellowhammer has very strong coloration

It was the first decent day for serious shooting this year, and luckily it happened to be the Saturday =) I woke up at half past nine and headed to Toukari just before ten. My purpose was to check out the bird feeding place and, if possible, try to shoot some yellowhammers.

At first I picked wrong route out of two possible ones; there was a ditch full of wet snow and water in between me and the feeders. You probably guess that I picked the shorter one :P Well, after ten minutes I was there behind the tripod, ready for the hammers to appear. Quite soon they were back and I noticed the angle problem: Yellowhammers like to feed on the ground.

Females are clearly duller than males

I lovered the tripod and fell on my knees to get proper angle for my shots. Now I was happy with it! Shoot animals in the wrong angle and your pictures loose their power.

The February light can be very kind for us photographers
